Zingari Biography

Zingari Swing performed at Salford's prestigious Lowry Theatre as part of Northern Equity's curtain raiser concert for the Commonwealth Games 2002. Since then they have appeared at the Plaza Theatre in Stockport to a sell out audience. The charity concert was organised by Roy Hudd and included many of the Coronation Street Stars and legendary guitarist Bert Weedon.

Another concert, again featuring stars of Coronation Street was staged at the Grand Opera House in Leeds, all proceeds to charities patronised by Liz Dawn (Vera Duckworth). Zingari Swing performed with Bruce Jones (Les Battersby) joining them on vocals.

Apart from these three major concerts, previous performances include Wadebridge Folk Festival, Guernsey Folk Festival, Redcar Festival, High Lane Blues and Folk Festival, Poynton Festival, Chesterfield Festival, the BBC Roadshow at GMEX Arena and Band On The Wall in Manchester and Blues and Folk clubs throughout the UK, Ireland, Channel Islands and Europe, including numerous appearances on national and local television and radio programs.

They also appeared on the BBC Children In Need album in 1991 as the Bilious Brothers (before they became Zingari Swing) performing the song This Town written by Tony Nyland, and were also commissioned to write and perform the soundtrack for the feature film "Derek" starring Ricky Tomlinson in 2003.

REVIEWS

"THE HEART TAKES FLIGHT" C.D. (Laid back, easy blues takes of Tony Nyland's intimate almost hushed compositions. "Hearts of Stone" being the stand out and deserving of a few high profile covers. Elsewhere some tricksy guitar lines... Folk Roots Magazine)

Excellent songs and great guitar work from three seasoned musicians... DAVE PRICE (BBC Radio)

Look immediately beneath the obvious and you see three talented musicians playing mostly original material, look closer and you find originality, warmth, humour and skilled musicianship. Rob Carroll & John Carroll superbly complement Tony Nyland's natural talent. I'm glad I book them at Sandbach Folk Club and I'm glad I know them, after 24 years as organiser they still reach me out of the blurr of time… WINSTON BALDWYN (Sandbach Folk Club)

Their 60min spot was a mixture of Tony Nyland's own compositions and some really well thought out arrangements of Blues & Folk standards, one song that got an amazing reaction from the audience was their arrangement of "Bird On A Wire" which they played to celebrate the fact that Leonard Cohen had his 71st Birthday that week, I just wanted to say thank you to the band in helping to make our festival a great success... SANJIT SIL (Festival Director)
